Midwest Hauling was founded in 1980 by Rebecca Johnson and has been owned and operated since 2004 by her daughter Christine Johnson.
Christine says she was bestowed with plenty of great advice from her mother upon her retirement but one very valuable piece of advice was to stay true to her word. "Especially in a male-dominated industry like this, stick to your guns. You have to do what you know is right, even though it may not be the cheapest result you need to stand behind your word." The counsel has served Johnson well as her company Midwest Hauling & Contracting, Inc., averages $3 million in annual revenues.

Truck #101, Midwest Hauling's first truck purchased in 1980. Midwest Hauling continues to keep their fleet current and in good condition with their on-site mechanics. Midwest Hauling has purchased over 90 trucks since it was founded and strives to keep their fleet above standards.

Johnson says she values providing great service that goes above and beyond the call of duty. We operate 20 trucks, which is big because this is an industry known for someone ordering five trucks and only getting three. When someone orders from us they're guaranteed to get what they want." What also stands out about the company, says Johnson, is the fact that her company employs an operations manager who supervises the drivers, ensures delivery and works with the contractors on the job to address their needs. Midwest’s fleet also consists of newer model trucks providing greater reliability.
The company recently completed their $1 million subcontract to L. Krupp Const. on the Clayton Rd. project in St. Louis, MO. They are currently working on “The New I64” project for Gateway Constructors.
The most common reason customers cite for using Midwest Hauling is their “Superb Service.”
Christine was recognized in 2007 by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly as one of “St. Louis’ Top Women Business Owners”. Currently Midwest Hauling employs a 17% minority workforce. |
